Vom 23. bis 25. September 2022 trafen sich rund 40 Amazon-Beschäftigte aus 15 verschiedenen Standorten in Deutschland, Polen, der Slowakei und Frankreich sowie Unterstützer in Poznan, Polen, zum halbjährlichen Treffen der Amazon Workers International (AWI). Türkische, US-amerikanische und kanadische Amazon-Beschäftigte nahmen online teil.
Ziel der AWI ist es, die transnationale Zusammenarbeit zu vertiefen, Informationen auszutauschen und gemeinsame Aktionen der Amazon-Arbeiter in Europa und darüber hinaus zu koordinieren. Das jüngste Treffen fand vor dem Hintergrund steigender Inflation, unzureichender Lohnerhöhungen und harter Repressionen gegen Gewerkschaftsaktivisten durch Amazon statt. In diesen Zeiten ist es für die Amazon-Beschäftigten besonders wichtig, gemeinsame internationale Antworten zu entwickeln.
Das Treffen begann mit einer Flugblattaktion vor dem Fulfillment Center in Poznan (POZ1). Amazon Workers International und lokale Unterstützer informierten und solidarisierten sich mit dem neuen Streikaufruf bei Amazon in Polen. Die lokale Gewerkschaft Inicjatywa Pracownicza (IP) hat einen neuen Arbeitskampf begonnen, um eine Lohnerhöhung von sechs Złoty (1,30 Euro) pro Stunde zu fordern. Zu diesem Zweck wird eine Abstimmung unter allen Beschäftigten in Polen durchgeführt. Vor der Aktion hat Amazon eine Sicherheitskontrolle am Eingang seines Betriebsgeländes eingerichtet, um zu verhindern, dass Personen, die nicht bei Amazon in Polen arbeiten, das Gebäude betreten. Am Tor wurden die Ausweise aller Beschäftigten kontrolliert, so dass alle über die Aktion informiert waren. Viele kommentierten, dass dies Amazons Angst vor einer länderübergreifenden Organisierung der Belegschaft im Unternehmen zeige.
Ein wichtiger Teil des Treffens bestand aus Berichten über die aktuelle Situation in den verschiedenen Ländern und Werken. Das heißeste Thema ist derzeit die steigende Inflation und die unverschämte Reaktion von Amazon darauf: die angekündigten völlig unzureichenden Lohnerhöhungen. Während die Arbeitnehmer darum kämpfen, über die Runden zu kommen, weigert sich das Unternehmen, die Löhne an die Inflation anzupassen. Eine weitere Herausforderung, mit der die Beschäftigten in den Lagern auf der ganzen Welt konfrontiert sind, ist die zunehmende Repression gegen Gewerkschaften. Amazon entlässt und diszipliniert ungerechtfertigterweise Gewerkschaftsaktivisten und verhindert Gewerkschaftsaktivitäten in seinen Warenlagern. Dies ist eine Reaktion auf den wachsenden Widerstand bei Amazon in der Welt. So wurde in zwei Werken in Deutschland zum ersten Mal gestreikt. Auch in einer Videokonferenz am Samstagabend mit Amazon-Beschäftigten aus den USA, Kanada und der Türkei wurden beeindruckende Kampferfahrungen und neue Organisierungsbemühungen ausgetauscht. Dies zeigt, dass Amazon überall auf Widerstand stoßen wird, solange das Unternehmen sein despotisches Arbeitsregime aufrechterhält und die Arbeiter missachtet.
Die Teilnehmer des Treffens in Poznan einigten sich darauf, sich an der globalen Aktion für bessere Arbeitsbedingungen bei Amazon am Schwarzen Freitag im November zu beteiligen. Während die konkreten Aktionen auf lokaler und nationaler Ebene geplant werden, haben wir gemeinsame Forderungen entwickelt:
- Der Ausgleich der Inflation ist das absolute Minimum. Notwendig sind außerdem eine weitere deutliche Lohnerhöhung sowie die Schließung der wachsenden Kluft zwischen den Löhnen in Ost- und Westeuropa (was im Interesse aller Amazon-Beschäftigten ist, da niedrigere Löhne überall als Druckmittel eingesetzt werden können, um die Löhne überall zu drücken).
- Neue Technologien sollten nicht zum Nachteil der Arbeitnehmer eingesetzt werden. Sie darf nicht die Überwachung von uns ermöglichen oder verbessern, unsere Arbeitsbelastung erhöhen oder Arbeitnehmer arbeitslos machen. Wir sind keine Roboter und wir wollen nicht von Robotern kontrolliert werden!
- Die Amazon-Beschäftigten müssen an der Gestaltung der Arbeit bei Amazon beteiligt werden. Sie sind am stärksten davon betroffen und haben die Erfahrung, um sie bestmöglich zu organisieren. Sie müssen ein echtes Mitspracherecht bei jeder Veränderung des Arbeitsprozesses haben.

Final declaration of the meeting of Amazon Workers International held in September 2022
From 23 to 25 September 2022, around 40 Amazon workers from 15 different facilities in Germany, Poland, Slovakia and France, as well as supporters, met in Poznan, Poland, for the semi-annual meeting of Amazon Workers International (AWI). Turkish, US and Canadian Amazon workers joined online.
The aim of AWI is to deepen transnational relations, exchange information and coordinate joint actions by Amazon workers in Europe and beyond. The latest meeting took place in the face of rising inflation, insufficient wage raises, and harsh repression against union activists by Amazon. In these times it is especially important for Amazon workers internationally to develop common answers.
The meeting started with a leafletting action in front of the fulfillment center in Poznan (POZ1). Amazon Workers International and local supporters gae out information on and showed their solidarity with the new drive for a strike at Amazon in Poland. The local union Inicjatywa Pracownicza (IP) has started a new labor dispute to demand an hourly pay raise of six Złoty (€1.30). Therefore, a vote will be held among all workers in Poland. Before the action, Amazon set up a security check at the entrance of its premise to prevent those who don’t work at Amazon in Poland from entering. They checked badges of all workers at the gate, so everyone was informed about the action and many commented that this shows Amazon’s fear of transnational rank-and-file organizing at the company.
An important part of the meeting consisted of reports about the current situation in the various countries and facilities. The hottest issue right now is the rising inflation and the outrageous reaction to this from Amazon: the totally insufficient wage raises announced. While workers are struggling to make ends meet, the company refuses even for wages to keep up with inflation. Another challenge workers are facing in the warehouses all around the world is increasing union busting. Amazon is firing and unjustifiably disciplining union activists as well as preventing union activities in its facilities. This is a reaction towards the growing resistance at Amazon in the world. For example, two facilities in Germany have held strikes for the first time. Also, in a video call on Saturday evening with Amazon workers from the US, Canada and Turkey, impressive experiences of struggles and new organizing drives were exchanged. This shows that Amazon will face resistance everywhere as long as it upholds its despotic labor regime and disrespects workers.
The participants of the meeting in Poznan agreed to join the global action for better working conditions at Amazon on Black Friday this November. While the concrete actions taking place will be planned on the local and national level, we developed common demands:
- Compensating for inflation is an absolute minimum. Also needed are a further substantial pay raise as well as closing the growing gap between wages in Eastern and Western Europe (which is in all Amazon workers’ interest as lower wages anywhere be used as a lever to keep wages done everywhere).
- New technology should not be implemented to the detriment of workers. It mustn’t enable or enhance surveillance of us, increase our workload or put workers out of a job. We are not robots and we don’t want to be controlled by robots!
- Amazon workers should participate in the organization of work at Amazon. They are the most affected by it and they have the experience to organize it in the best way possible. They must have a real say with regards to every change in the labor process.

Du 23 au 25 septembre 2022, une quarantaine de travailleurs d’Amazon provenant de 15 établissements différents en Allemagne, Pologne, Slovaquie et France, ainsi que des sympathisants, se sont réunis à Poznan, en Pologne, pour la réunion semestrielle de l’Amazon Workers International (AWI). Des travailleurs d’Amazon turcs, américains et canadiens nous ont rejoint en ligne.
L’objectif d’AWI est d’approfondir les relations transnationales, d’échanger des informations et de coordonner les actions conjointes des travailleurs d’Amazon en Europe et dans le monde et au-delà.
La dernière réunion a eu lieu alors que nous faisons face à une inflation croissante, des augmentations de salaires insuffisantes et une répression sévère contre les militants syndicaux par Amazon. En ces temps difficiles, il est particulièrement important pour les travailleurs d’Amazon de développer des réponses communes au niveau international.
La réunion a commencé par une action de distribution de tracts devant le centre de traitement des commandes de Poznan (POZ1).
Amazon Workers International et des supporters locaux ont distribué des informations sur la nouvelle campagne pour l’emploi et ont montré leur solidarité pour le nouveau mouvement de grève d’Amazon en Pologne. Le syndicat local Inicjatywa Pracownicza (IP) a entamé un nouveau conflit du travail pour demander une augmentation de salaire horaire de six Złoty (1,30 €). Un vote sera donc organisé parmi tous les travailleurs de Pologne. (* précision utile, en Pologne il faut 50% de votants de toute l’entreprise favorables à la grève pour déclencher le mouvement)
Avant l’action, Amazon a mis en place un contrôle de sécurité à l’entrée de ses locaux afin d’empêcher les personnes qui ne travaillent pas chez Amazon Pologne d’entrer. Ils ont vérifié les badges de tous les travailleurs à l’entrée.
Ainsi, tout le monde a été informé de l’action et beaucoup ont commenté que cela montre qu’Amazon a peur de l’organisation transnationale de la base à l’entreprise.
Une partie importante du meeting a consisté à faire les rapports sur la situation actuelle dans les différents pays et dans les différents établissements. Le sujet le plus brûlant en ce moment est la hausse de l’inflation et la réaction scandaleuse d’Amazon à ce phénomène : les augmentations de salaire annoncées sont totalement insuffisantes.
Alors que les travailleurs se battent pour joindre les deux bouts, l’entreprise refuse même que les salaires suivent l’inflation.
Un autre défi auquel les travailleurs sont confrontés dans les entrepôts du monde entier est l’intensification du démantèlement des syndicats. Amazon licencie et sanctionne de manière injustifiée des militants syndicaux et empêche les activités syndicales dans ses installations. Il s’agit d’une réaction à la résistance croissante chez Amazon dans le monde. Par exemple, deux sites en Allemagne ont organisé des grèves pour la première fois.
De plus, lors d’un appel vidéo samedi soir avec des travailleurs d’Amazon des États-Unis, du Canada et de la Turquie, les expériences impressionnantes de luttes et de nouvelles initiatives d’organisation ont été échangées. Cela montre qu’Amazon devra faire face à une résistance partout tant qu’elle maintiendra son régime de travail despotique et ne respectera pas les travailleurs.

Compenser l’inflation est un minimum absolu. Il est également nécessaire de procéder à une nouvelle augmentation substantielle des salaires et de combler l’écart croissant entre les salaires en Europe de l’Est et en Europe de l’Ouest (dans l’intérêt de tous les travailleurs d’Amazon pour lutter partout contre le maintien des bas salaires)
Les nouvelles technologies ne devraient pas être mises en œuvre au détriment des travailleurs. Cela ne doit pas permettre d’améliorer la surveillance, d’augmenter notre charge de travail ou de mettre des travailleurs au chômage. Nous ne sommes pas des robots et nous ne voulons pas être contrôlés par des robots !
Les travailleurs d’Amazon devraient participer à l’organisation du travail chez Amazon. Ils sont les plus touchés et ils ont l’expérience pour l’organiser de la meilleure façon possible. Ils doivent avoir un vrai mot à dire en ce qui concerne chaque changement dans le processus de travail.
